Walter Edward “Walt” Spaid passed away peacefully on September 3, surrounded by his family at the Journey Home.
He was born to Willis Edward Spaid and Arva Mae “Bobbie” Spaid September 17, 1937, in Woodward Oklahoma.
Walt began his elementary education at Woodward, OK, but later moved to Enid, OK, graduating from Enid High School with the class of 1955. He continued his education at the University of Tulsa, graduating with a BS Degree in Business Administration in 1959.
He began his career working at First National Bank in Tulsa and remained there for twenty years working in the Data Processing Department. He continued his knowledge of computers and data processing at McDonald-Douglas and then worked at Hale Computer Systems. He finished his career at St. Francis Medical Center, all in Tulsa, retiring in 1993.
Walt married Gloria Milner in Tulsa and they had two children. They later divorced in 1971. He married Vida “Sue” Kimbrell on September 22, 1972, at Tulsa and established a home there. They moved to Tahlequah in 1993, living close to Tenkiller Lake so they could enjoy their retirement. They moved to Bartlesville in 2004; moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma, in 2014; then returned to Bartlesville in 2018. They were married for 50 years before Sue passed in April 2023.
Walt was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and enjoyed watching Oklahoma State Football. He also enjoyed spending a lot of time outside, whether it was fishing for sand bass at the lake, gardening (especially his tomatoes), grilling burgers for the family, going for long walks, or just sitting on the patio.
Walt is survived by a son William Edward “Bill” Spaid and wife, LuAnna, of Stillwater, OK; a daughter Patricia Ann “Patty” Young and husband, David, of Caney, Kansas; four grandchildren: Charee McGovern, Tracie Jabben and husband Jared; Chandee Hawk and husband Allen; Travis Young and wife Bri; eight great-grandchildren: Ty McGovern, Chesnee McGovern, Jade Jabben, Jace Hawk, Logan Jabben, Jagger Hawk, Jake Jabben, and Joey Jabben; two step-grandchildren: Kirsten Stephens-Sosbee and Rocky Stephens. Walt is preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to: The Journey Home, Rivercross Hospice, or Green Country Village.
