Thomas Edward Schmidt

Thomas Edward Schmidt, age 93, passed away peacefully with family around him on May 23, 2025, at Ascension St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Tom was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, to Ferdinand and Kataryna (Lehner) Schmidt. In his early years, Tom went to the Fish Creek School and was a 1950 graduate of Ochelata High School.

Tom married Thelma Mae Thompson in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, on April 19, 1952. Tom enlisted in the U.S. Army in August of 1954, and was honorably discharged in August of 1956, as Private First Class.

Following his service, Tom and Thelma made their home in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and became the owner and operator of Schmidt Excavating for over 45 years.

When Tom wasn’t working his business, you would find him caring for his life-long family farm, which he incorporated as Fish Creek Farm, LLC., which still operates today. If Tom had a hobby, everyone would agree it was gardening. This wasn’t just a hobby for him, it was a necessity to feed his family and share with his neighbors.

Tom is survived by his children: Dan and Cathie Schmidt, Paul and Debbie Schmidt, Anna (Schmidt) and Sam Coan, Joe and Sarah Schmidt, and John and Peggy Schmidt; 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Thelma Schmidt; his parents: Ferdinand and Kataryna Schmidt, his eight brothers and sisters: Rookie, John, Fred, Mike, Mary, Rose Teresa, and Ann; and his great-granddaughter: Beckett Hope Boerio.

Tom was a member of the St. John Catholic Church.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at Arnold Moore and Neekamp Funeral Home, 710 S. Dewey Ave, Bartlesville, OK 74003. The funeral mass will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 2:00 PM, at St. John Catholic Church, 715 S. Johnstone Ave, Bartlesville, OK 74003.
