Monthie Lee Burchett, 93, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at his home on May 21, 2025. Born in Bartlesville on July 1, 1931, Monthie’s life was defined by faithfulness, family, and a tireless work ethic that touched everyone who knew him.
A proud veteran, Monthie served honorably in the United States Air Force before returning home to dedicate his life to family and community. He was the proprietor of several local grocery stores and the well-loved Monte’s Superette convenience stores. He later spent 17 years working for Phillips 66 before retiring, only to return to the workforce at Atwoods, where he gave another 17 years of dedicated service before retiring a second time.
On September 15, 1951, Monthie married the love of his life, Daisy Mae Burchett. Their enduring marriage of 56 years was a testament to love, loyalty, and shared purpose. Together, they built a life centered on hard work, devotion to family, and deep mutual respect. Her passing in 2007 on their 56th anniversary marked the end of one chapter in Monthie’s life, but he carried her memory and love with him always.
Monthie was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, and Grandad. He found great pride in his family and was happiest when surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His legacy is reflected in the lives he helped shape and the values he instilled—honesty, determination, and love without condition. He lived simply, worked hard, and loved deeply.
He is survived by his brother, Gary Nodine of Wagoner, OK; his daughter, Lee Whittington of Parker, CO; three sons: Montie Burchett of Tulsa, OK; Max Burchett, Sr. of Bartlesville, OK; and Mark Burchett of Bixby, OK; grandchildren Dr. Max Burchett, Jr. of Guthrie, OK and Cassidy Gudmundsson of Gainesville, VA, 7 other grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren who will forever carry forward his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents, Monthie Lumpkin Burchett and Azalee Burchett; three brothers; one granddaughter, and one great granddaughter.
Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home in Bartlesville. Funeral services will be held the following day, Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the same location, with Rev. Randy Little officiating. Interment will follow at White Rose Cemetery.
