Michael L. Hunter, 78, Bartlesville, Oklahoma, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, on Friday morning, June 12th, 2026, after a courageous fight against cancer. Memorial services will be held at Arnold Moore & NeeKamp Funeral Home in Bartlesville, Tuesday June 23rd, 2026, at 2pm. Visitation will be Monday, June 22, with family receiving guests at the funeral home from 6-8pm.

Michael was born on September 15th, 1947, in Hawthorne, California. He was a Vietnam War Army veteran and awarded the Purple Heart for the injuries he sustained during his tour. He proudly served his country and felt it an honor to do so.

A lifelong member of the (DAV) Disabled American Veterans, Dewey, OK, and (NAVA) the Native American Veterans Association, White Cloud, KS. He enjoyed several occasions participating with and serving alongside those who were known as the Indian Color Guard in the White Cloud, KS area.

He was a member of Bluestem Baptist Church, Dewey, OK, and enjoyed the monthly men’s fellowship group, and the faith and friendships built among the church family. He also found enjoyment in volunteering to help others as it often lifted his own spirits.

Michael is proceeded in death by his parents, Thelma (Holmes) and Charlie Morris; two brothers Jim Rexroat and Danny Joe Hatton; his beloved first granddaughter, Emileigh Wilson, and a special rescue dog, Domino.

Michael is survived by his wife of 43 years, Leigh Hunter, of the home in addition with the constant affection of his furry companion Etta James.

Michael earned the title of Dad by helping to raise both Jennifer L McCoy, (Steven), Wichita, KS, and Jeffery J Wilson (Tami), Edgerton, KS. His biological children include Reuben Shane Hunter (Leslie) Joplin, MO, Jeffrey Shane Hunter, Oklahoma City, OK and family, and April Christine Griffin of California and family.

He is survived by sisters Ann Hauser (Marc) and family, Overland Park, KS, Carlene Springer and family, California. Michael is survived by many grandchildren, including his first grandson, Nathan Wilson, Stilwell, KS, and second granddaughter, Sarah Wilson, Edgerton, KS, and 1 great grandson. He is also survived by his nieces including Allison (Hatton) and family; Angela (Hatton) and family, New Mexico.
