Michael Davis "Dave" Bartosh

Michael Davis “Dave” Bartosh was born on June 4, 1972, in Bryan, Texas, to Katherine and Michael Bartosh. From an early age, Dave displayed a heart full of kindness, a zest for life, and a natural instinct to care for others. At just three years old, he saved a young neighbor from drowning by calling for help, an early sign of the protective and loving spirit that would define his life.

Dave spent his childhood in Houston, Texas, and later moved to Georgia, attending Cloister Creek Schools in both Atlanta and Conyers. There, he formed a lasting bond with his speech therapist, Sandra Leet, a friendship that endured for 37 years. He began working for Marriott during his time in Conyers and later transferred to a Marriott location in San Antonio.

Due to health challenges, Dave eventually moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, to be closer to his mom and stepfather, Ben Powell. There, he built a large extended “family” of his own, friends and mentors who helped him flourish.

Among them was Dan Hourigan, a friend and mentor, and his wife, Kadilyn, as well as their children, Benjamin and Samuel, who welcomed Dave into their hearts and home.

Thelma Ivie, a devoted special education teacher, friend, and life coach, helped Dave earn his GED and embrace independent living and job skills. Thelma’s husband, Earnie, and children, Lynn and Felecia Ivie, welcomed Dave into their home and life with open arms and embraced Dave as one of their own.

Dave also found great joy in music. Under the guidance of his music instructor, Holly Deibert, he explored a wide range of instruments, including the piano, bagpipes, and soprano saxophone, before discovering a love for singing. Holly’s husband, Peter, and their children, Chase, Brenden, Jakob, and Austen, were also part of the village that supported and encouraged Dave’s passions.

A man of deep faith, Dave was an active member of the First Wesleyan Church in Bartlesville. His belief in Jesus Christ was at the core of his life. He often shared his testimony in personal conversations with people and also at public gatherings, eager to help others through his words and witness.

For the past twenty years, Dave worked at the Richard Kane YMCA in Bartlesville, where he formed many meaningful friendships. He was also a dedicated member of Colaw Fitness, where his strength, determination, and joyful presence left a lasting impression. Two of Dave’s weekly workout friends include Jim Bell and Tanner Stumpff, who were a big part of Dave’s everyday life and routine.

Dave was affectionately known as “Uncle Dave” to many. He loved the holidays, especially Christmas, and made sure that every child at his gatherings received a gift.

Dave was a lifelong learner, always eager to grow in knowledge and develop new skills. Whether pursuing education, work training, or personal interests, he approached each opportunity with humility and determination.

His warm smile, quick wit, and generous heart left an impression on everyone he met. He truly lived out the commandment to “Love thy neighbor,” and through his daily actions and love for the Lord, Dave reminded us all how to live with greater compassion, joy, and faith. Dave will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but we take comfort knowing that he is with Jesus.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 16th, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Bartlesville First Wesleyan Church (1776 Silver Lake Rd, Bartlesville, Ok 74006).

Memorial contributions may be made to the Richard Kane YMCA in lieu of flowers.
