Kathryn Axe

1945 — January 1, 2021

Leawood, KS

Kathryn Jane Axe was born on April 17, 1945 to William Nelson Axe and Mary (Madigan) Axe in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.  She left us on May 12, 2021.  She was the second of three girls. Growing up in Bartlesville in the 1950s was an idyllic time. May Elizabeth Dellva was the oldest in the family and Cynthia Jean Axe Foote was the youngest.  Since Cindy had serious health problems, a lot of her life revolved around caring for her.

Kathy was very fond of her nephew, Peter Dellva and his wife, Denise and niece, Mary Anne Dellva.  She loved her three nephews, Alexander Dellva and wife, Spenncer and Henry Dellva and wife, Rachel and last but not least, William Dellva.  She kept a shrine of their accomplishments in her kitchen.  She was excited about becoming a great aunt very soon.

Kathy was a proud alumna of the University of Kansas, where she received several degrees, including a PhD. While at KU, she made many friends, most of whom she is still in contact with.  Wherever she was, she always made new friends.

Following college, Kathy taught one year at Emporia State University. She then worked at the American Petroleum Institute.  Following her time at API, she worked for Gulf Oil, later BP and others in many capacities. Upon retirement, she moved back to Kansas City to be near friends.  She taught at UMKC and Rockhurst College.

Kathy loved dachshunds and was the proud mother of several over the years, as well as a couple of cats. She was a voracious reader, loved the opera and was a talented artist.  Her favorite genre was Japanese ukiyo-e paintings.  She often copied them in a larger format for herself and friends and family.

Her family and friends will miss her very much. We will not see her like again.
