Jenetta Mae Jackson, 79, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday afternoon, July 25, 2026, at Ascension-St. John Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville.

Jenetta was born August 15, 1946, to Calloway Jack Hampton and Olivia Jaqulyn (Hopkins) Hampton in Santa Clara, California. She came to Oklahoma at an early age and grew up in the southeastern part of the state, near Bennington, in Bryan County. After graduating from Bennington High School, Jenetta married her first husband and they moved to Germany, where he was stationed. She would come back to the states, settling in Las Vegas, where she became a chorus line dancer and escorted such stars as Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Peter Lawford and Dean Martin to center stage.

Jenetta would later move back to Oklahoma where she took a job as a truck driver and in 2000, married Bruce R. Jackson, in Durant, Oklahoma. She went to college and became a personal assistant and proofreader to author, Billie Letts, who wrote “Where the Heart Is.” The Jacksons moved to Bartlesville in August of 2025.

Jenetta was a published author, penning novels in the traditional Choctaw narrative. “Adventures of Mews”, “Mews II: A Little Cat in the Big City” and a third book, that will be published posthumously, are among her works.

Survivors include her husband, Bruce of the home; three children, Harry Miller of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Scherina Large of Bryan County, Oklahoma and Greg Peterson and his wife, Lisa of Bokchito, Oklahoma; one brother, Jack Calvin Hampton of Waurika, Oklahoma; a sister, Linda Hampton of St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada; six grandchildren, Issac Miller and wife, Jessica of Bokchito, Danica Gipson and husband, Joshua or Durant, Reona Thorn and Sara Large, both of Durant and Eric & Everlee Peterson, both of Bokchito; as well as ten great-grandchildren.

Jenetta will be laid to rest in Pappin Cemetery, north of Pawhuska, Oklahoma on Monday, July 27, 2026, at 11am, with her husband, Bruce, officiating.
