Floyd (Sikes) Alvin Thompson was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 29, 2020 at Hillcrest Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He began his journey on November 6, 1923, in Hayden, Ok Nowata County, now known as Lightning Creek. He is the 5th child of 10 children of Joseph and Aggie (Mayhew) Thompson. He was given the nickname Sikes by his Uncle Bert. His formal education was at Lightning Creek Madden School where he finished in 1939. After school Floyd joined the Navy and served his country well. After 3 years of service he received an honorable discharge.

Floyd married the love of his life Shirley Martin and together they raised 3 sons Richard Thompson, Arvon Thompson and Eddie Thompson. Floyd lived and raised his family in Kansas City, Mo. His work career started at Clay and Bailey Manufacturing where he worked until retirement. Floyd’s hobbies were fishing and hunting but his true love was the family farm. After retirement Floyd took on the responsibilities of maintaining the farm until his health started to fail. He raised cattle, chickens and always had a large garden.

Floyd was a simple man; he often dressed up in a clean shirt and a new pair coveralls. He loved just sitting with family and friends visiting. During the season you could find him in front of the TV watching the KC Royals and was on top of the world when the Chief’s won the Super Bowl. He often talked about the changing times he lived through and expressed he never thought he would see the first black president be elected.

He was given many names from those that loved and respected him; daddy, grandpa, Sikes, Unk, brother and friend. Floyd Alvin Thompson will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Preceding him in death are his parents Joseph and Aggie Thompson, two children; Richard Thompson, Arvon Thompson Sr. siblings; Jean Gibson, Edith Gibson, Gladys Martin, Marie Green, Wayne Thompson, Harold Thompson, Freddie Thompson and Everett Thompson.

To cherish his memory, include his wife Shirley Thompson, daughter Juanita Jordan of Tulsa, OK; son Eddie Thompson of Grandview, MO; sister Vivian Peace of Kansas City, MO; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 15 great- great grandchildren; a host of relatives and friends.
