Bartlesville, Oklahoma

Dwayne Marvin Garrett of Ochelata, Oklahoma, was born June 26, 1945, and passed away November 16, 2025.

Dwayne was born into a horse-loving family in California. They raised and raced championship horses in California and Oklahoma for many years, before moving to Oklahoma, where they continued their endeavors. Dwayne attended school at Nelogany, Oklahoma.

Upon high school graduation, the United States Army brought him into service. Dwayne served during the Vietnam War. He was a POW and survived to come home to the USA. He received additional medical training upon his return at Walter Reed Hospital during his recovery. He was then given a choice of retiring or going through either medical school or law school. He chose the latter and studied the Constitution and laws of America for the next eight years at Fort Mead, Maryland. During that time, the service was broken out by two years in each branch of the military: Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps. Dwayne was well-known for wearing a cap that stated DD214 Alumni, which meant he had served in the four branches.

He returned to Oklahoma and continued his work for the government as an agent of the National Security Agency and was still active and on assignment at the time of his death. He was a highly decorated soldier and served his country for over 60 years. He was an expert in Constitutional law and successfully closed over 3,000 cases during his tenure.

Dwayne loved the land, horses, oil, and gas and other types of businesses he was associated with. He worked closely with his parents for many years and was well known and respected in Northeast Oklahoma. He was proud of his Native heritage in both the Cherokee and Osage tribes.

He met the love of his life, Elizabeth Hennigan Clinton, in October of 2024. They made their home in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

He was also deeply invested in helping fellow veterans and actively served in the Veterans Affairs Administration, assisting veterans who needed help with their benefits.

The Garrett family has been in Oklahoma since the turn of the last century. Within the family were and are several well-known celebrities, Ben Johnson, the actor was his uncle. Margaret Mitchelll, author of Gone With the Wind was his aunt. Reba McIntyre is his cousin. John Roberts, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is his cousin. Shoat Webster, Pro Rodeo Champion, was his uncle. They all contributed to the character of the man who was their admirer.
