Carl Reherman

December 13, 1941 — November 1, 2019

Carl F. Reherman (Dec. 13, 1941-Nov. 1, 2019) was born in El Dorado, Arkansas to Joe and Mayme Reherman. He grew up in Chandler and spent most of his adult life in Edmond before he and his beloved wife, Glo, retired to their Grand Lake home in Cleora and later to Grove.

Carl’s life was one of purpose, service and love. He found his purpose was always focused on bringing an idea to fruition, making a dream a reality, finding a solution to any problem and enriching the lives of others.

Carl carried out his purpose through service. He served the Lord through his dedication to the Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He served his country as an MP in both the Air Force and Army. Carl also served to educate future leaders during his thirty years as a faculty member and administrator at The University of Central Oklahoma, where he earned his B.A. He later earned a Masters Degree at OU in Public Administration.  Carl served the communities where he lived. In Edmond, he held many leadership positions, including twelve years on the city council, ten as mayor.  He was director of the George and Donna Nigh Leadership Academy for more than 20 years.  In Chandler, Carl served as mayor, and he was Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Grove while also receiving his 4th Degree.  Carl was a proud volunteer at Grove Integris Hospital.

Carl would say that the most important thing of all was love. He and Glo were devoted to one another for over thirty years. He loved his children: Carl; Jennifer and Eddie Buffington and their children Phoebe, Eddie and Maddie; Rich and Megan Bagby and their children Savannah and Christian; Ryan and Brecka Bagby and their children Sophia and Mia. He doted on his grandchildren, attending their events whenever he was able. He was a beloved brother to Roger, Mayme Jo, Jim and Delores and uncle many nieces and nephews.

Carl had hundreds of friends with whom he shared many adventures. Whether it was traveling the world with his touring company, working on projects/campaigns for one office or another or just laughing and reminiscing, they all mourn his passing.

Carl’s professional legacy will be the planning and construction of Arcadia Lake. It reduced flooding in Chandler, secured a water supply for the City of Edmond for generations and provided recreation opportunities for thousands.  In 2019, The Carl Reherman Park at Arcadia Lake, his great honor, was opened.

Services will be held at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Grove, OK.  Rosary will begin at 6 pm Thursday, November 7th, Wake following at 6:30 pm.  Mass will be celebrated Friday, November 8th, at 11 am.  Memorial celebration in Edmond pending.
